Haluk Akakçe (b. Ankara, Turkey, 1970) trained in architecture at Bilkent University, Ankara, then graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art, London and MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Solo presentations include a commissioned performance for Istanbul State Opera and Ballet and The British Consulate, Istanbul (2012); Sky Is The Limit, to commemorate 100th anniversary of the City of Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV (2006); Tate Britain, London (2004); and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2002).
Significant group exhibitions include Encounters: Conversation Pieces, Tate Liverpool, Liverpool (2011); In Praise of Shadows, Istanbul Modern (2009); Istanbul, British Art Show 6, Hayward Gallery, London and BALTIC, Gateshead (2006); Expander, The Royal Academy, London (2004), and Animations, PS1 - Contemporary Art Center, New York.
Akakçe's art is held in collections around the globe including the Istanbul Modern, Istanbul; British Council Collection; MUDAM, Luxembourg, and the UBS Art Collection, Zurich.
