In recognition of Robert Mapplethorpe's desire to support research into AIDS and HIV infection, we support Positive Women, the umbrella organisation of The Children of Swaziland and Swaziland Positive Living.
Swaziland is one of the world's poorest countries. It receives very little international monetary support, meaning many Swazi communities live in chronic poverty and are forced to survive widespread food shortages. AIDS is taking a heavy toll on these communities with more than a quarter of the adult population of the country believed to be infected with HIV.
Positive Women is a new project dedicated to empowering these communities.
Positive Women's mission is simple: to empower and educate communities affected by HIV/AIDS to create a greater understanding of the issues facing women and children and provide real, practical support that enables some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world to change their circumstances.
